Hey guys!
For my first blog round-up I'm sharing with you my favorite accounts to follow on Instagram right now. I saw a great post by Jenny Komenda recently where she talked about taking back control of our Instagram experience (if you haven't seen it, I'd highly recommend checking it out here). I really liked her analogy comparing Instagram influencers we follow to magazines we subscribe to and the different types of content/ads we see in those magazines - it all made a lot of sense to me.
The essence of her video was about thinking through how you want to FEEL when you use the platform and really going through and unfollowing (or muting) accounts that are no longer inspiring you, you can no longer relate to, or simply don't make you feel good.
In the spirit of her IGTV video, I thought I'd share with you all some of the accounts that I'm most inspired by right now. So, here we go. I hope you'll check them out and enjoy them as much as I do!
01. MARC COSTA (@m.a.r.c.c.o.s.t.a)
Marc posts OFTEN and his grid is full of colors and many, many styles. He has a wonderful eye for unique and tasteful design.
02. BEA LAMBOS (@beaandcostyle)
Bea is an interior decorator, stylist, and the QUEEN of color. No really, she has an ability to curate images like no one I've ever seen! I thought I was being very original in posting on a color gradient to my grid, but then I discovered Bea and, WOW - she takes it to the next level, in the best way possible. Her stories are packed with beautiful inspirational images, particularly her #midweekyum and #sundayscroller series., plus her captions often feel like quirky prose from a design magazine! Can you tell I'm fan-Girling hard? lol
03. FILM SHOOTERS GROUP (@filmshootersgroup)
I'm digging analog photography recently and I think it's because I'm going through a real retro phase right now. Nearly every one of these photos invokes some sort of nostalgia that transports you right into whatever moment is happening in the image. I love that this account supports many smaller photography accounts. It's not uncommon for me to go down a complete photography rabbit hole on this page. Not mad about it!
04. TOBY DAVIES (@edgewood.edition)
Toby is a photographer based in California who shoots everything on 35mm film. His whole feed has a retro west coast vibe (see, I told you I'm living a retro moment right now), The best part is that he sells prints of his work on his website, so if you see something you love while scrolling, there's a good chance you can buy it as well!
05. SHAVONDA GARDNER (@sgardnerstyle)
Shavonda's Instagram stories/rants often make my day! She's a designer focused on small space living and describes her style as eclectic with a distinct global influence. Her design motto is "just because you live small doesn't mean you can't have big, bold style". As a New Yorker stuck in a tiny Brooklyn apartment, I find this super relatable.
06. NAM DANG-MITCHELL (@namdangmitchell)
If you're a fan of neutrals, this is an account for you. Nam's account is sophisticated and elevated; contemporary but with a twist; warm and textured. Scrolling through her feed feels a bit like sitting down with a good design coffee table book. Plus, she's a fellow Canadian!
07. THE FINDER'S SOCIETY (@thefinderssociety)
Three words: COZY, COZY, COZY. I cannot for the life of my figure out how this account doesn't have 1M followers because it feels like everyone's favorite Pinterest page. If you like rustic, and woodsy, and remote, this is an account for you!
08. HISTORY JPEG (@history.jpeg)
A great account to follow if you're a film or pop-culture buff that loves old photos of celebrities. Oddly enough, I am the polar opposite of a film buff, but I still love sifting through these photos and reading the captions!
09. CARA WOODHOUSE INTERIORS (@carawoodhouseinteriors)
10. ASHLEY BASNIGHT (@smashingdiy)
There are a lot of DIY accounts out there, but when I saw someone else post this insane DIY closet Ashley made, I was IMPRESSED. Give her a few power tools, and there's nothing this woman can't do!
11. RETRO CHIC DESIGN (@retrochicdesign)
A one-stop-shop for inventive, colorful, and outside-the-box designs curated by two interior design lovers. If I'm ever in an inspiration rut, I often seek out this page for ideas.
12. KARIN MEENEN (@nukarisha)
Karin's account is dedicated to her wonderful art. I was introduced to this account a few months ago, and while she doesn't post often, what she does post is gold. For any design nerds out there, start by watching the "chair series" highlight on her profile where she illustrates classic vintage chairs through the ages. There's something about the simplicity of her work that I just love + you'll want to frame every second image in your kitchen (sounds weird, but go look for yourself and tell me its not true!)
13. ALEX PROBA (@alexproba)
Alex Proba is a Brooklyn based designer. In the design world, they call her a "multidisciplinary designer"; or, in my words, she makes magic out of literally everything she touches. But really, she designs products, graphics, furniture, and artwork + more! Her work is a little abstract. a lot colorful and often brings to mind the Memphis Milano style. If you're into a bit of funky, she's your girl. She also sells prints and textiles on her website (check it out here).
14. SLIM AARONS (@slim_aarons)
If you're not familiar with his work, Slim Aarons was an American photographer known for his images of celebrities and socialites. He is famously quoted as saying that he made his career "out of photographing attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places." So, you guessed it - that's what you can expect to find on this page that is a tribute to his work and it's absolutely fabulous!
15. OC (@onlyclassy)
Their bio describes the account as "carefully curated and sourced content from the past, present, and future" and this is indeed, what it does. I love the variety of this account - from landscapes, to interiors, to celebrities, and vintage cars - it has it all. Highly recommend a scroll through!
Thank you! Honored to be mentioned In your blog! Grazie! Andrea & Gabriela @retrochicdesign
